Are the prices on this site what I'll pay?
No. They're planning ranges for the Charlotte region in 2026. Your price is the written, itemized estimate the roofer gives you after the inspection. It holds for the period printed on it, normally 30 days, and it isn't a contract until you sign it.
Who actually does the roofing?
Independent roofing contractors who carry liability insurance. Where North Carolina law requires a licensed contractor for the size of the job, the contractor holds a licence from the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors. Jobs in York County, South Carolina follow that state's rules.
Who handles permits?
The roofer. Replacements in Charlotte and the rest of Mecklenburg County are permitted through LUESA. Homes in a local historic district may need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Landmarks Commission first. Permit fees show as their own line on the estimate.
How does payment work?
Repairs are paid when the work is done. Replacements follow the payment schedule written into the signed estimate. Insurance-funded jobs line up the carrier's payments and your deductible against that same written scope.
Can I use the guides to fix my own roof?
The guides explain; they don't instruct. Roofs are slippery, high and unforgiving. We're not responsible for injury or damage from do-it-yourself roof work.
Is the site's information official?
No. It's general information about roofing and the rules around it here. Mecklenburg County, the other counties we serve, the state licensing board and your insurance policy have the final word.
